Project Summary
Construction Specialties (CS) worked with BP to adapt CS Omniwall – a new and innovative partitions solution which delivers faster and more cost-effective interiors – to suit BP’s specific requirements, and to significantly reduce the length of their build programme.
Full Case Study
BP is one of the world’s leading oil and gas companies, operating approximately 300 company owned petrol filling stations across the UK, with an extensive programme of new build and refurbishment projects across their estate each year.
For one of their filling stations in Kent, BP demolished their existing building to make way for a bigger and better store, featuring many new and innovative construction methods and materials.
Design Goals
With this pilot scheme BP wanted to innovate and collaborate to shorten their future build programmes, improve consistency, and develop an interior that could be refurbished more quickly and cost effectively.
Until now, BP’s petrol filling stations have used traditionally constructed interiors, made from metal stud and melamine faced claddings. Shop fit out on these take on average 4 weeks to complete, with the usual store-to-store ‘as built’ variations.
BP chose CS Omniwall as a direct replacement for the traditionally constructed walls, and worked closely with us to develop the solution further to meet their needs.
Results
We were contracted to facilitate the partitioning of the store with our new CS Omniwall, to include the Café, back of house area, and Accessible WC.

Factory produced and delivered to site in flat pack format for ease of access, CS Omniwall is an innovative partition system that can be assembled rapidly, without the need for power tools, around an aluminium chassis. This means that prelims and health & safety issues are reduced.
Melamine faced Moisture Resistant MDF (MRMDF) claddings were secured directly to the aluminium chassis on a patented clip system, allowing for simple replacement of panels and reuse of framework during future refurbishment or reconfiguration.
In the café, expensive brick slips were replaced with durable, back-printed Acrovyn by Design, offering the same aesthetic with the added benefits of easier cleaning and reduced cost.
Acrovyn by Design was also used in the Accessible WC, offering an easy to clean, aesthetically pleasing visual for the users.
Throughout the project, CS collaborated with BP to further refine the system and build process, so that future projects will require even less time to install. In addition, there will be a reduced need for working at height, thereby minimising health & safety risks, and the need for specialist equipment.
BP now have a design package that can be replicated in their many other filling stations, allowing a reduced building programme, speedier revenue generation, reduced labour costs, along with easier and more economical refurbishment of their estate.
