CS Green Walk: a collective event to clear up city litter!
We believe that awareness is best raised through action and that leading by example is a great way to change habits over the long term. Instilled within the Construction Specialties Group is a determination to offer specific activities for our employees to get involved with. As a French group, we are proud to contribute and to spread the news about top class initiatives to raise awareness.
With the aim of bringing together as many people as possible to combat the spread of urban litter and illegal dumping, a Green Walk was organised by the Evreux Volleyball Club and Construction Specialties France on 9 April in Pacy-Sur-Eure.
By choosing to keep it local, beginning at the factory car park with a litter pick in Pacy-sur-Eure, our objective was to help clean up the surroundings and our production site entrances which are used by all our employees on a daily basis.
This starting point also represents the company’s commitment and drive to improve the way we welcome everyone who visits CS.
An ideal project to link our CSR and QWL goals
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is now a major concern in all industrial sectors. It combines, among other things, economic rationale, social responsibility and eco-responsibility.
As an industrial company specialising in the design and manufacture of architectural solutions, we make these issues central to our activities and our social, societal and environmental goals. As with the CSR approach, quality of working life (QWL) puts respect and personal comfort at the heart of our approach.
These powerful ideas, which aim to improve well-being at work and our coexistence, are, for us, complementary, convergent and totally compatible with our involvement as a sponsor of Evreux Volleyball.
Pick up as much rubbish as possible!
Free and open to everyone, this first environmental walk attracted the interest and support of the entire Évreux Volleyball women’s team, with the exception of two players who were involved in a tournament, and the captain of the Panthères team, who had just been recruited by the French national women’s volleyball team. Volunteers and active club members were also present, as were Construction Specialties France employees.
After a welcome snack, with fruit juice and hot drinks, the first participants immortalised the moment with a group photo before starting the walk and the litter pick.
Equipped with gloves, litter pickers and rubbish bags, the group got organised and shared their tasks. To get the best results, the participants were divided into pairs: one equipped with a litter picker and the other armed with a rubbish bag.
The participants set out on their walk with a specific goal in mind: to collect as much litter as possible along the way.
Dozens of cigarette butts, cans, a plethora of surgical masks, paper and all sorts of plastic packaging could not escape the clutches of the group! Among the relatively normal urban litter, the volunteers also made some nice finds such as a car hubcap and an audio cassette which won the prize for vintage waste!
The walk along the footpaths and roads around the Eure Valley railway station, the college and a supermarket in Pacy-sur-Eure led to kilos of litter being collected very quickly.
And the results are clear!
The litter pick ended up with full rubbish bags, which went straight into skips provided by the city of Pacy-sur-Eure. Satisfied they had completed their civic duty while having fun, the pairs earned their break and rested their aching arms after all their efforts!
A friendly, fun atmosphere characterised this morning, with everyone aiming for the goal of collecting the most rubbish, thanks to so many people getting involved in this green project. Chance meetings and genuine fun will be good anecdotes in the future and an excellent incentive to start another litter pick as soon as possible!
A sponsorship that makes us feel good
Much more than a philanthropic act, we are a privileged partner of the Evreux Volleyball Club. We share strong values, such as respect for the environment and people, tenacity and commitment.
After the players visited our factory on a guided tour to find out about our architectural solutions, this new initiative with the EVB once again shows us the players’ involvement in causes that are as important for the partner companies as they are for the club, and for this reason we are proud to be EVB’s partner.
