The Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s new multi-million pound ‘Jigsaw Building’, housing state-of-the-art cancer treatment facilities and a new Women’s Health Unit, welcomed patients for the first time in 2015.
To integrate the building into the community, and make the local people feel part of the process, the designers sought input from local residents on features or facilities they would like incorporated within the hospital, requests included Wifi, easy parking and artwork.
Taking into account the local request for artwork to feature within the building, and the requirement for strict cleaning regimes within the hospital, architects Stride Treglown and the Capital Estates Department sought an impact resistant, easy to clean medium that would allow them to create expansive wall murals in key locations within the hospital.
Due to the locations of the murals, and the risk of damage, Stride Treglown chose Acrovyn by Design, a product from Construction Specialties (CS) for its impact resistant, easy clean qualities as well as its PVC-Free composition.
For the images themselves, Interior graphic designers Studio Mode were tasked with bringing nature into the hospital, making patients feel at home with photographs of familiar nature scenes.
The large Acrovyn by Design wall murals were installed in the ground floor Oncology Recliner Bay and the first floor Breast Care Subwait, to provide a welcoming and positive distraction for patients and visitors.
As well as the vibrant wall murals, CS provided an extensive wall protection package for the rest of the hospital featuring HRB20 Hand/Crashrails in circulation areas, Bed Head Protection in treatment rooms and wards, and Corner Guards throughout the hospital.
The extensive wall protection package helps the hospital maintain a clean and modern look within the hospital, without the worry of wall damage and high maintenance costs.
