The Royal Oldham Hospital, owned and operated by The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, has recently completed an extensive £4m refurbishment and expansion project designed by the IBI Group, and carried out by Vinci Construction.
As part of the redevelopment process, the IBI Group wanted to create a non-clinical environment for patients to help reduce patient anxiety when visiting A&E, but were concerned about the robustness of standard interior wall finishes and their ability to withstand the tough hospital environment. They turned to CS Acrovyn® for their design and performance needs.
Throughout the corridors of the A&E department, Construction Specialties supplied a range of high performance, Acrovyn solutions – from Heavy Duty Crash rails and Corner Guards to impact resistant Acrovyn Sheet and Door Protection in a variety of colours.
Custom wall murals were created, using different Acrovyn Sheet colours in the paediatric facility, and giving the waiting area the look of an urban park, with Acrovyn Sheet cut into shapes to represent fences, hedges and trees. Custom departmental signage was also created with CNC routed Acrovyn Sheet, to create a bold wayfinding solution.
The extensive use of Acrovyn products will enable the hospital to serve growing patient numbers without the worry of high maintenance costs, whilst offering patients a clean, calming, and non-clinical environment in which to receive care.
